   Learn To Play Hockey

SECYH is proud to announce our next Learn-To-Play Hockey session at the Norwich Rink for all youth players. This instructional program is a great way to introduce young skaters to the sport of Ice Hockey. It will be conducted by our Development Director, Reno Bolduc starting Saturday, January 30th from 8-9AM and continue for 10 weeks each Saturday morning at a cost of $150.

Both our Learn-To-Play session and our House Team programs may be joined at any time for a prorated fee. Our 10 week LTP sessions will continue to meet for the foreseeable future.

All members are asked to help and encourage those you know who may be interested to participate. Please see the
attached brochure for more information. All players must be USA Hockey registered which can be done online at: http://www.usahockeyregistration.com

Seahawks at East Lyme Light Parade

SECYH Float at the East Lyme Light Parade in December

A special thanks goes out to all our volunteers that helped make this happen. Major contributors were Bill Vorra and Carl Desaulnier for construction, which took many hours.  Many others also stepped up with assistance:  Mark and Kristen Huta (painting, finishing touches, material for the base and getting many of the Mites to participate), Donna Bednar and Peter Cornelius (banners), Carolyn Yapchanik (Candy for the kids to toss), Mark Collins (float design), Keith Tower and Leslie Hawley (Paint) and Dan Dean (painting).  And close friend Ron Helbig for the use of his truck to drive the float.

It turned out to be a great evening weather wise and it was a lot of fun and a great memory for those who were able to participate. The kids will be sure to remember.

There were also many families in attendance from the Mites, a family from Learn-to-Play on roller-blades, the Bradleys, the Ogdens, the Desaulnier's, the Huta's, the Ford's...

If anyone hears of any other upcoming parades this year the float can be borrowed. We will also reuse the banners for other SECYH events.

Interesting Read

Members,

Earlier this week I came across this article and I thought it was worth sharing.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/notebook/_/page/buccigross_091215/my-13-simple-rules-hockey-parents-everywhere

Check it our while you watch the snow fall today and tomorrow. It's entertaining and informative for all of us who enjoy youth hockey. By the way, I believe the author's kids play in South Windsor so if you happen to stumble into him let him know you enjoyed it. I'm pretty sure he would appreciate it.

The Zamboni Griil
by posted 11/05/2009

Members,

As many of you already know the Zamboni Grill is in full operation at the Norwich RInk. They have also recently become a sponsor of SECYH. As part of that sponsorship, the proprietors have asked that we remind our members that it is the rink policy to not allow outside food or drink inside the facility.  The staff at the Zamboni Grill has worked hard to maintain consistent hours, quality food and fair pricing. They also will be happy to cater for any team events at the rink. Feel free to ask them about team parties or birthday celebrations. As a sponsor of our organization I am hopeful that our members will take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the Zamboni Grill's selections. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Paul Santamaria
President-SECYH

H1N1 Virus Precautions
by posted 09/30/2009

A concern has been raised about the spread of the H1N1 virus or Swine Flu that, until now, SECYH has neglected to address. First off, the league will continue to make water bottles available for team practices and games but the league is encouraging all players to bring their own. Ideally it would be unique in appearance with the player's name on it and it should not be used by anyone else. I am asking all coaches and parents to reiterate this message to your players. The following are standard recommendations from the CDC to help prevent the contagion:

  • Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand cleaners
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • Try to avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home if you are sick until you have been symptom-free for 24 hours

Remember, those with compromised immune systems (e.g., asthmatics) are the most at risk. That includes those that may be excessively tired from physical activity. By being aware of the risks and taking some simple precautions, it will go a long way to keeping all of our players healthy throughout the season.
